Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what Taskweather (taskweather.com) and the Taskweather browser extension collect, why, who sees it and what you can do about it. Taskweather is run by SOLBYTE (Republic of Korea) ("we", "us"), which is the controller of the personal data described here.
- The sound is made in your browser. What you do on other websites never leaves your computer.
- The extension looks only at the site name of your active tab (for example github.com), on your computer. It never stores it and never sends it to us or anyone else.
- You can use the player without an account. If you sign in, we keep your email address, your settings, daily usage totals per mode and the sound feedback you give.
- No ads, no tracking or advertising cookies, and we never sell or share your data for advertising.
1. Using the player without an account
The player at taskweather.com/play works without signing in. Your settings, your own site rules and site exceptions, the free auto-switch minutes used today and your focus record are kept in your browser's local storage on your device. We do not receive them. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
2. The browser extension
The extension is optional. Without it you pick the mode yourself. With it, it does the following on your computer only:
- It reads the address of your active tab and immediately reduces it to the host name (for example docs.google.com). The path, search terms and the rest of the address are discarded on the spot.
- It notices whether a browser window is in front, and asks the browser whether the computer is active, idle (no keyboard or mouse input for a while) or locked. It never sees what you type or where you click.
- It passes the host name and these states only to the Taskweather player tab open in the same browser, which uses them to pick a sound mode and to pause while you are away. In return the player tells the extension the current mode, whether it is playing and the sites you set to "keep" or "pause", so its toolbar button and popup can show them. Play, pause, "not now" and site choices you make in the popup or with the shortcut go to the player the same way.
- It does not store any of this, keeps no browsing history and sends nothing to our servers or to anyone else.
- It asks for only two browser permissions, "tabs" and "idle", and its page script runs only on taskweather.com.
It never reads: full page addresses, paths or search terms, page titles or contents, browsing history, screen contents or screenshots, keystrokes, the clipboard, the microphone or camera, files, or the contents of documents, email or chats.
The use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. That information is used only to choose and pause the sound for you. It is not sold, not used for advertising, not used to decide creditworthiness or lending, and no person reads it.
3. What we collect when you have an account
- Account: your email address and how you sign in (email link or Google). If you use Google sign-in, Google also gives our sign-in provider your name and profile picture; we do not use them for anything.
- Your "what you mostly do" answer, if you chose one. Your other settings (volume, automatic switching, switch delay and transition length) stay in your browser.
- Usage totals: for each day and mode, how long sound played, how much of it was automatic, and how many times you changed the mode by hand. We do not receive which sites or programs you used.
- Sound feedback: the mode, the sound and the button you pressed (like, dislike, too intense, too calm). The sound adjustments learned from it stay in your browser.
- Your own site rules stay in your browser. We store them only if you turn on rule sync in the settings.
- Subscription and billing: the plan, status, renewal dates, amounts, currency and payment status, plus the order and subscription records Lemon Squeezy sends us, which can include your name, email, country and card brand with its last four digits. We never receive full card numbers.
- Support: what you write to us when you contact us.
- Technical data: when you visit the website, our hosting and sign-in providers process your IP address, browser type and request times in server logs to deliver the site and keep it secure.
4. Why we use it (and our legal bases)
- To provide the service, your account, your plan and your settings across sessions (performance of our contract with you).
- To tune sounds to your feedback, which is a feature you choose to use (contract).
- To charge subscriptions, issue refunds and keep the records tax and accounting law require (contract and legal obligation).
- To understand, in totals, how the service is used, for example how many people keep automatic switching on, so we can improve it (our legitimate interest in improving the service; we look at aggregates, not at individuals).
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse (legitimate interest).
- To send service email such as sign-in links, receipts and notices of important changes (contract). We send marketing email only if you agree to it.
We do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
7. International transfers
The providers above store and process data in the United States and may use other countries. When you sign in, subscribe or contact us, your data is sent to them over encrypted connections as the service runs, for the purposes and periods in this policy. Where data leaves the EU, the EEA, the UK or Korea, we rely on the safeguards the law provides, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where a provider is certified.
If you do not want your data transferred, do not create an account and use the player without signing in; nothing about you is sent to us then. You can also delete your account at any time.
8. How long we keep it
- Account data, settings, usage totals and feedback: for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, they are deleted, and removed from backups within 30 days.
- Billing records: Lemon Squeezy, as the seller, keeps transaction records for as long as tax law requires. We delete our copy with your account, unless a law requires us to keep it longer.
- Support emails: up to 3 years after the matter is closed, so we can handle any follow-up or dispute.
- Server logs at our hosting and sign-in providers: for the short periods those providers set.
Deleted data is erased so that it cannot be recovered.
9. Your rights and choices
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw any consent you gave. Write to support@taskweather.com from the email address of your account. To delete your account, send the same request; deletion removes everything listed in section 3 except what section 8 says we must keep. We answer within the time the law sets (for example 10 days in Korea and one month in the EU and UK) and do not charge for it.
If you live in California or another U.S. state with a privacy law, you have the right to know, delete and correct your data and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal data, so there is nothing to opt out of; we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as such an opt-out anyway. An authorized agent can make a request for you.
You can also complain to your data protection authority, for example the authority in your EU country, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or in Korea the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee (kopico.go.kr) or the KISA Privacy Infringement Report Center (privacy.kisa.or.kr, call 118). We would appreciate the chance to fix the problem first.
10. Security
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Every table in our database is protected by row-level security, so each account can read only its own rows. Card details never reach our servers. Access to production data is limited to the people who run the service, and secret keys are never shipped in the player or the extension. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Children
Taskweather is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 to create an account, at least 14 in Korea, and at least the age of digital consent where you live in the EU (up to 16). If we learn that we hold data from a child below these ages without the required parental consent, we delete it. The player can be used without an account, in which case we receive nothing about the user.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change is material, for example if we start collecting something new, we tell you on the website and by email at least 7 days before it takes effect, and we ask for your consent where the law requires it.
13. Contact
